1 bundle (Metroplex, Kanaplex, Focus, Garlic Guard)

This bundle packs four Seachem products that are often used together into one kit: 5g (0.18oz) Metroplex powder, 5g Kanaplex powder, 5g Focus powder and 500ml of Garlic Guard concentrate. Having them on hand means you can start treatment the day you spot a problem instead of waiting for a delivery.

What each one is for

  • Metroplex: Seachem’s metronidazole treatment, commonly used for internal parasites and certain protozoan problems.
  • Kanaplex: Seachem’s kanamycin-based antibiotic, used for bacterial and fungal infections.
  • Focus: a binder that holds medication in food so fish eat it rather than it diffusing into the water. See the Seachem Focus page for how it works.
  • Garlic Guard: a garlic concentrate that tempts fish to eat, which helps when sick fish refuse food.

Making medicated food

The classic combination is medication plus Focus plus Garlic Guard, mixed into a small portion of pellets or flakes. Soak, let it absorb briefly, then feed only that food for the treatment period. Follow each product’s own label for ratios and course length.

When food-based treatment makes sense

Internal problems like bloating, stringy white feces or wasting often respond better to medicated food than to dosing the water. Water dosing still has a place for external infections; Kanaplex and Metroplex can both be used that way per their labels.

Good practice

  • Use a hospital tank when you can.
  • Remove carbon during water dosing.
  • Keep water quality high; test daily with a kit like the API Freshwater Master Test Kit.
  • Do not mix in other medications unless the labels say they are compatible.

Storage

Keep the powders dry, sealed and cool. The small 5g containers last a long time for most home tanks.

Who it suits

Keepers of valuable fish such as discus, cichlids or marine fish who want a ready medicine cabinet, and anyone who has struggled to get medication into fish that will not eat.

The Bottom Line

A practical medicine-cabinet kit for keepers who want to treat through food.
