The Pawfly Internal Aquarium Filter is a small submersible filter for 3 to 10 gallon fish tanks. It runs on 3W and has a 55 GPH pump. Water is pulled through a fine sponge, which traps debris and grows beneficial bacteria, then pushed back into the tank.
Adjustable flow
A slide knob sets the flow. Turn it down for bettas and fry, or up for better circulation in a planted nano. Pawfly includes two outlets: a spray bar style pipe that spreads the water gently and a drenching pipe that sends it out as a stream.
Oxygen supplement

Clear airline tubing comes with it. Run the end above the waterline and the filter draws in air, mixing bubbles into the outflow. That adds oxygen without a separate air pump.
Shrimp and fry safe

The intake is covered by sponge, so small shrimp and fry aren’t pulled in. That makes it a fit for breeding tanks and nano shrimp tanks as well as small community tanks.
Size and setup

The unit is about 1.4 inches wide and 4.9 inches tall. Mount it low on the glass with its suction cups, keep it fully underwater, and point the outflow along the glass rather than straight across the tank.
Maintenance
- Squeeze the sponge in tank water when flow drops.
- Check the impeller every month or so for hair and plant bits.
- Replace the sponge when it starts to break apart.
Who should look elsewhere
For tanks over 10 gallons, size up to a bigger internal filter like the Tetra Whisper 170. If you’d rather not have a unit inside the tank, the NICREW slim HOB filter hangs on the back instead.
The Bottom Line
A handy all-in-one filter for small tanks, gentle enough for bettas and shrimp once you turn the flow down.
