The NICREW Slim Aquarium Filter is a small hang-on-back filter for nano and pico tanks from 1 to 5 gallons. It draws only 3W and moves up to 42 gallons per hour, and the flow is adjustable. The slim body is barely noticeable on the back of a small tank.
Made for gentle nano tanks
Bettas, shrimp and tiny fish don’t do well in strong current. With adjustable flow, you can turn this filter down until the water at the surface barely ripples. That makes it a good fit for betta tanks, shrimp setups and planted nanos.
Restarts after power cuts

NICREW uses a patent-pending priming system that lets the filter restart by itself when power comes back after an outage. Many small hang-ons need refilling by hand after a power cut, so this saves a common headache.
What’s in the box

- Filter body
- Intake tube and extension tube
- Intake sponge
- Filter cartridge
The intake sponge keeps shrimp and fry from being pulled in, and the extension tube lets you reach deeper water.
Care

Rinse the intake sponge in old tank water every week or two, and change the cartridge when it clogs. Keep the water level up to the filter’s lip, since evaporation in small tanks lowers it quickly and makes the outflow noisy.
Who should look elsewhere
For tanks above 5 gallons, size up to something like the Seachem Tidal 35. For the gentlest flow of all, a sponge filter run by a small air pump such as the hygger quiet mini pump is another route.
The Bottom Line
A tidy, gentle filter for betta, shrimp and pico tanks up to 5 gallons that restarts on its own.
