The Pawfly 5-in-1 Aquarium Water Master Test Kit uses liquid reagents to measure pH, nitrite, nitrate, ammonia and phosphate. It works in freshwater and marine tanks, with color-matching charts included.
How many tests
The kit holds 265 measurements in total: pH (100), nitrite (45), nitrate (50), ammonia (30) and phosphate (40). Ammonia has the fewest tests, so if you are cycling a new tank and testing ammonia daily, that bottle will run out first.
Why phosphate is included

Phosphate feeds algae. In planted tanks it is a nutrient you want in balance, and in reef tanks high phosphate can slow coral growth and fuel nuisance algae. Most basic master kits leave it out, so having it in the same box is useful.
Liquid versus strips

Liquid reagents take a few minutes and some care, but they are generally more precise than strips. That matters at the low readings where action is needed, like trace ammonia in a new tank.
Getting accurate results

- Rinse test tubes with tank water before and with clean water after.
- Hold the dropper vertically so drops are the same size.
- Shake bottles as instructed, especially nitrate reagents.
- Read against a white background in daylight.
Testing schedule
During cycling, test ammonia and nitrite every day or two. Once stable, test weekly and before adding new fish. Phosphate can be checked every couple of weeks unless you are fighting algae.
Compared with others
The API Freshwater Master Test Kit covers similar core tests without phosphate. For quick daily checks, a strip such as the AAwipes 8-in-1 is faster. Many keepers own both types.
Storage
Keep reagents cool, dark and capped tightly. Check expiry dates on the bottles before relying on results.
Write each result and date in a notebook or phone note. Trends over a few weeks tell you far more than any single reading, especially for nitrate and phosphate.
The Bottom Line
A useful liquid kit for keepers who also want to watch phosphate.
