AKKEE 36W Electric Aquarium Gravel Cleaner

The AKKEE electric gravel cleaner replaces a hand siphon with a motorized vacuum controlled from the handle. It has three power levels, 36W, 27W and 19W, a timed shutdown, and a 5 layer filter cup for returning cleaned water to the tank. AKKEE counts 8 functions in all.

Choosing a power level

Use 36W for heavy waste in a big tank or a turtle setup, and drop to 27W or 19W around small fish, fry or fine sand. Lower suction lifts mulm without pulling up the substrate.

Filter cup or drain

You can send water to a bucket for a water change, or run it through the filter cup. The cup holds 5 layers of media, including reusable sponges, bio balls and carbon balls, so you can clean the gravel without removing water. That is handy between water changes.

Timer and reach

A timed shutoff stops the unit after 60, 30 or 10 minutes. A telescopic tube and a 1.5-meter extension water pipe adjust reach for deep or shallow tanks.

In the box

Two sand washing tubes for coarse and fine sand, a waste suction head, an algae blade, a DC 24V power adapter, the 1.5m pipe, an extension tube, the filter bucket and a manual.

Safety note

The handle is not waterproof. Keep it above the water line and dry your hands before adjusting it.

For a routine clean, start at a low setting near plants and roots, then work across open gravel in short passes. Rinse the filter cup sponges in old tank water afterward so the useful bacteria in them survive, and let the tubes dry before you store the kit away.
