The TARARIUM Hang on Back Aquarium Filter with UV is a hang-on filter for 20-75 gallon tanks that adds an ultraviolet light chamber. Water passes the UV lamp in an isolated section before reaching the media, so the light can work on free-floating algae while the bio sponge stays shaded.
The UV chamber
A 5w lamp at 253.7nm sits in its own compartment. UV light damages free-floating algae cells and microorganisms that pass close to it, which is why it is used against green water. It does not remove algae stuck to glass or decor, so you’ll still need a scraper for that.
Surface skimmer and flow

An optional skimmer intake pulls in the oily film and floating debris that can collect on the surface. The water level must stay above the skimmer’s fixed pipe for it to work. A knob adjusts flow, so you can turn it down for shrimp, bettas or other delicate fish.
Noise

TARARIUM rates machine noise under 40 dB, with about 1 minute of extra noise while the pump primes. The return is a waterfall spout, which adds surface movement and helps aeration. Keep the tank topped up so the fall stays short and quiet.
Sizes

This listing is model WP-609H for 20-75 gallon tanks. A larger model, the HB-1200, covers 40-150 gallon tanks and comes with carbon, ceramic balls, a sponge and filter socks.
Using UV well
Run the lamp continuously during a green water outbreak, then consider shorter daily periods once the water clears. Never look directly at the lit bulb.
Plan for the bulb as a consumable. UV lamps lose strength with use even while they still glow, so if green water returns months later, a fresh bulb is often the fix. Unplug the filter before opening the UV chamber.
Alternatives
If you don’t need UV, the Marineland Penguin 375 is a proven hang-on filter. For bigger tanks, a canister like the Fluval FX2 offers more media room.
The Bottom Line
A practical hang-on choice when green water is the main problem you are fighting.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does UV kill algae on the glass?
No. It only affects algae and microorganisms floating past the lamp.
Is there a bigger version?
Yes. The HB-1200 covers 40-150 gallon tanks.
Is it safe for shrimp?
Turn the flow down and guard the intake so small shrimp are not pulled in.
