This live plant bundle from Marcus Fish Tanks contains 1 anubias barteri and 1 Java fern. Sizes vary as these are live plants: anubias barteri 2-6 inches and Java fern 4-8 inches. Both are classic beginner plants that tolerate low light and a wide range of water conditions.
Do not bury the rhizome
This is the one rule that matters. Both plants grow from a thick horizontal stem called a rhizome. If you bury it in gravel or sand, it rots. Instead, attach the plants to driftwood or rock, or wedge them between stones. Roots will grip the surface over a few weeks.
How to attach them

- Tie them on with cotton thread or fishing line.
- Use a small dab of gel superglue on the rhizome and press onto dry wood or rock.
- Tuck the rhizome into a crevice so it is held in place.
Light and growth

Both are slow growers that do well in low to moderate light. Strong light can lead to algae on their leaves, since they grow too slowly to outpace it. Place them in shaded spots, under wood or toward the back corners.
Feeding

Because they take nutrients from the water, root tabs do little for them. A light liquid fertilizer such as API LEAF ZONE helps them keep good color.
Fish compatibility
Their tough leaves are rarely eaten, so they suit tanks with goldfish, cichlids and other plant-nibbling fish. They also give shrimp surfaces to graze.
Shipping and arrival
The seller advises not ordering live plants when temperatures are expected to go below 30F at the lowest point of the day. Unpack on arrival, rinse, remove any damaged leaves and get them into the tank quickly.
