The Inkbird ITC-308 Digital Temperature Controller is a plug-in thermostat that sits between the wall outlet and your equipment. It reads the water with its own probe and switches power to a heater, a cooling device or both. This is the Non-WiFi ITC-308 version.
Why aquarists use it
The built-in thermostat on an aquarium heater is a common failure point. When it sticks on, a heater can cook a tank. Plugging the heater into the ITC-308 and setting the heater itself a little above your target puts the Inkbird in charge, with the heater’s thermostat as a backup. If either fails, the other limits the damage.
Dual relay

The controller has two outlets: one for heating and one for cooling. In summer, a chiller or fan can run off the cooling side while the heater runs off the other. Customizable compressor delay protects refrigeration equipment from short cycling.
Display and alarms

A dual display window shows measured and set temperature at the same time. It supports °C/°F. High and low temperature alarms sound with a buzzer if the water goes out of range or the sensor malfunctions.
Load

Maximum output load is 1100 W (110 V), enough for typical aquarium heaters. Check the combined wattage if you plug in several devices.
Setup tips
- Place the probe away from the heater, in good water flow.
- Set a small differential so the heater does not cycle constantly.
- Set alarms a couple of degrees either side of your target.
- Keep the controller above the waterline and use a drip loop.
Who it suits
Reef keepers, owners of large or valuable tanks, and anyone who has had a heater fail. Pair it with a quality heater such as the EHEIM Jager 200W or the Fluval E series for layered protection.
The Bottom Line
A smart, low-cost safety layer for any heated aquarium.
