The hygger cross flow wave maker spreads water in a wide sheet instead of a narrow jet. It runs on safe 24V DC power, holds to the glass with a magnetic base for glass up to 1/23, and ships with an LED display controller. The 25W version is 11.1 inches long, reaches 2380 GPH and suits tanks up to 265 gallons. An 18W version, 8.5 inches long with 1850 GPH, covers tanks up to 135 gallons.

Why cross flow

A standard powerhead blasts a cone of water that can push corals and fish around. A cross flow pump uses a long barrel impeller, so the current is softer and spread across a wide area. That moves more of the tank at once, removes dead spots and is gentler on soft corals and long-finned fish.

  • 5 wave modes: pulse, sine, constant, random and cross flow

  • Night mode for calmer water after dark
  • Linkage mode for coordinating pumps

Where to mount it

hygger notes three positions. Near the top, you see moving wave shapes on the surface. In the middle, it creates a stream of fine bubbles. At the bottom, it sweeps debris off the sand toward the filter. Many reef keepers run it high along the back glass for even, tank-wide flow.

Quiet operation

Sine wave control keeps the motor smooth, and hygger describes it as almost silent. The magnetic base lets you reposition it without tools.

Choosing a size

Pick the 18W for tanks up to 135 gallons and the 25W for larger systems up to 265 gallons. For a simpler single-speed pump on a mid-size tank, see the FREESEA magnetic wave maker.

Give a new cross flow pump a few days at a moderate setting while corals and fish adjust, then raise flow slowly over a week or two.

The Bottom Line

A strong choice for reef and large tanks that need wide, gentle, programmable flow.
