Aqueon Aquarium Algae Remover controls green water algal blooms and many types of algae on aquarium decor. It is for freshwater aquariums containing fish and plants. This page covers the 4 ounce bottle (100106024) and the 16 oz bottle (100106026).
Dosing
A dosage cap is included. Aqueon’s directions are 1mL (1/5 tsp) for each 10 gallons of aquarium water, or 5mL (1 tsp) for each 50 gallons. Measure tank volume honestly: subtract space taken by substrate and rock if you want to be precise, and never round up.
Not for crustaceans

Aqueon says it is not suitable for use with crustaceans such as shrimp, crabs and lobsters. If you keep cherry shrimp, amano shrimp or crayfish, remove them or use manual algae control instead.
Green water

Green water is a bloom of free-floating algae that turns the whole tank pea green. It usually follows a combination of strong light, especially sunlight, and excess nutrients. Algae remover clears it, but if you do nothing else it often returns.
Fix the conditions too

- Move the tank away from windows or block direct sun.
- Cut the light period and avoid leaving lights on overnight.
- Reduce feeding and increase water changes.
- Clean the filter so waste does not build up.
Oxygen during treatment
Dying algae consumes oxygen as it breaks down. Run an air stone and keep the surface moving, and watch fish for gasping. A water change a few days after treatment removes the dead material.
Sizes
The 4 oz bottle suits a small home tank. The 16 oz bottle makes sense for larger tanks or repeated use. The formula and dose are the same.
Alternatives
For a pond-capable algaecide, see MICROBE-LIFT Algaway 5.4. For tablet dosing, Tetra No More Algae Tablets are an option. Decor algae can often be scrubbed off by hand during a water change before turning to chemicals.
The Bottom Line
A straightforward green water fix for freshwater tanks without crustaceans.
