Aquatic Experts FilterFirst is a roll of filter floss, 12 inches wide and 72 inches long, about 3/4 to 1 inch thick. You cut pieces to fit your filter and use them to trap particles that coarse sponge lets through. It’s a common fix for slightly hazy water.
Two layers in one pad
The pad is dual-density. One side has a looser weave that catches larger debris, and the other is denser and traps fine particles. Put the looser side facing the incoming water, so the pad doesn’t clog in a day.
Where it goes

- Canisters. Cut a disc for the top tray, after the coarse foam.
- Hang-ons. Lay a strip over the sponge or in the media basket.
- Sumps. Cut it to fit a filter sock holder or tray.
Pair it with a coarse pre-filter foam like the ALEGI 20 PPI sponge pad, so the floss catches only fine material.
Rinse or replace

Aquatic Experts says the thick polyester fibers resist tearing and can be rinsed several times. Floss clogs faster than foam, though, because it’s finer. Many keepers rinse it once or twice, then swap in a fresh piece. With 72 inches of roll, that’s cheap to do.
Safe material

The pad is dye-free and chemical-free, made for aquarium use rather than repurposed from HVAC filters. That matters, because some air filters carry coatings that are toxic to fish. Aquatic Experts makes it in the USA.
Who should look elsewhere
Floss alone isn’t enough to run a filter. You still need coarse foam and biological media. For chemical clearing of yellow water, add carbon such as Fluval carbon bags.
The Bottom Line
An easy, safe way to polish aquarium water. Put coarse foam ahead of it and replace it often.
