PraziPro is a liquid parasite treatment sold under Hikari’s Aquarium Solutions line. It is a praziquantel solution (under 5% by weight, in oxybispropanol) for pond, freshwater and marine aquariums and ornamental pond fish. This listing is the 16 oz bottle.

What it treats

It is for disease conditions caused by praziquantel-susceptible parasites: flukes, tapeworm, flatworm and turbellarians. Gill and skin flukes are common in newly imported fish, especially discus, angelfish, koi and goldfish.

Why liquid

Praziquantel powder does not dissolve well in water. A liquid form mixes into the tank evenly, which makes accurate dosing easier, especially in large systems and ponds.

Using it

Follow the bottle for dose and repeat timing. Remove carbon from the filter during treatment, and add aeration, since treated water can foam or hold less oxygen. After the course, do a partial water change and replace carbon.

Quarantine use

Many keepers treat every new fish in quarantine with praziquantel as routine. It is a practical way to stop flukes from reaching a display tank. Keep a quarantine tank with a small sponge filter, such as one seeded in your main tank, and a heater ready.

Marine tanks and ponds

The label covers marine aquariums and ponds as well as freshwater. In a reef tank, check compatibility with your invertebrates before dosing the display; a separate treatment tank is safer.

Pairing with other products

For bacterial infections, a different medication is needed; see API Fin & Body Cure for freshwater fish. For internal worms, some keepers also use medicated food made with Seachem Focus.

Shake the bottle before measuring, and use a syringe for small tanks so the dose is accurate. Note the start date and each dose on a card near the tank, which makes it easy to follow the repeat schedule.

The Bottom Line

A dependable fluke and worm treatment, ideal for quarantining new fish.
