The FINBe Aquarium Substrate Shovel (model NB-1489) is a single landscaping tool with a 320mm (12.6 inches) handle. It is stainless steel with a black rust-proof coating for dual protection against long contact with water.
Two core jobs
FINBe designs the shovel for two things: working aquatic plant substrate and leveling sand in a water feature or tank. That covers leveling the bottom sand, digging planting holes and neatly organizing the substrate around hardscape.
Triangle head

The triangle-shaped shovel head fits plant soil and sand alike. It levels sand quickly, controls the depth of holes when digging and tucks into edges and corners along the glass and around rocks.
Less scatter

The shovel surface is smooth and fine, and the arc-shaped clamping end helps keep sand from scattering and splashing as you push it. When digging planting holes, you can control the force so you do not tear up the root systems of plants already in place.
Using it

- Shape slopes from back to front before filling the tank.
- Dig a hole, drop in a plant with tweezers, then push substrate back.
- Smooth the front edge after a gravel vacuum session.
- Bury root tabs near heavy root feeders.
Care
A simple rinse and drying is all the maintenance it needs.
Pair with
A shovel is a natural partner to good tweezers and scissors. The Luxiv 153 tweezers set handles planting, and Seachem Flourish Tabs go in the holes you dig.
Who it suits
Beginners and experienced aquascapers who already have tweezers and scissors and want a dedicated substrate tool. FINBe keeps the body lightweight and easy to hold without slipping, so even a first-time aquascaper can control it. Use the edge for fine work along the glass and the flat face for broad leveling.
The Bottom Line
A handy dedicated tool for leveling and planting substrate.
