The Aquatop Air Check Valve is a small inline part that keeps water from flowing back down the airline into your air pump. It is built for use with the Aquatop CAF-60 and CAF-180 sponge filters, and it adds an adjustable air intake and regulator so you can set how much air reaches the filter.
Why a check valve matters
When an air pump stops, from a power cut or an unplugged cord, the pressure in the line drops. Water can then siphon back down the tubing and into the pump, especially if the pump sits below the tank. That can ruin the pump and leave water on the floor. A check valve lets air flow one way only, so water stays in the tank.
The built-in regulator

Most check valves only block backflow. This one also has an air intake regulator. Turn it to soften the bubbling on a sponge filter in a fry or shrimp tank, or open it up for more lift and surface movement.
Installing it

- Cut your airline tubing at a convenient spot outside the tank.
- Push each end onto the valve with the flow arrow pointing toward the tank.
- Check that bubbles come out normally, then adjust the regulator.
If no air passes, the valve is in backward. Flip it around.
Compatibility

It is designed for Aquatop’s CAF filters, but it takes standard airline. That means it suits most sponge filter and air stone setups using tubing like Penn-Plax airline tubing. It works in freshwater and saltwater.
Care
Check valves can stick over time from salt creep or mineral buildup. If airflow drops, soak the valve in warm water, or just replace it. They are cheap insurance for a pump like the hygger quiet mini air pump.
Fit one valve per line if you split air to several tanks or filters, so every run stays protected.
The Bottom Line
A cheap, useful safeguard for any air-driven sponge filter setup.
